Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee

Date of First Reading: September 9, 2024

Date of Second Reading: October 7, 2024

Title of Motion: Request from the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College – Division of Educational Leadership and Innovation – for the disestablishment of a graduate degree – MS in Education Sciences

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale: The way in which the Education Sciences was originally developed, it was to be a stand-alone, one start cohort model delivered in-person on the Tempe campus. However, the demand for the program has been low resulting in less than a dozen applications per year and less than five and ten students enrolled in the first two cohorts. The Teachers College marketing team has met with the one remaining program faculty (the other retired in Spring 2022) and they did not necessarily see a large target audience for the program as is.
