Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee
Date of First Reading: November 4, 2024
Date of Second Reading: December 2, 2024
Title of Motion: Request from Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation – for the name change of a graduate certificate – From: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – To: Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: The educational programs and industry standards differentiate between Primary Care and Acute Care. This program focuses on Primary Care. Adding the Primary Care designation to the degree removes the confusion between programs while providing clarification to the credentialing bodies. The National Task Force on Quality Nurse Practitioner Education states “Criterion III.O. Official documentation of successful completion of the NP program clearly states the NP role and population focus of educational preparation.” A requirement that we need to meet is to clearly state the population focus of the program.
