Title of Motion: Request from The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences – School of Social Transformation – for the transfer of graduate degree – MA in Indigenous Education – From: School of Social Transformation – To: American Indian Studies Program

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision. 

Rationale: The program is closely supported by the Center for Indigenous Education, which is being relocated out of the School of Social Transformation and into the American Indian Studies Program. This combined with significant faculty retirements not replaced through hiring have created challenges for sustaining the program in the School of Social Transformation. The American Indian Studies Program will be able to provide increased instructional continuity, closely support this unique program, and provide students exposure to faculty with more directly relevant expertise.
