Title of Motion: Request from The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences – School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership – for the name change of a graduate degree – From: MA in Classical Liberal Education and Leadership – To: MA in Classical Liberal Education and Civic Leadership

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision. 

Rationale: “Civic Leadership” better captures what our program already does—many of our courses focus on civic leadership specifically, such as the presidencies of James Madison and Abraham Lincoln.  The word “Civic” appears in the title of our school, so the proposed name change helps signal the alignment between the school at large and its MA program.
