Title of Motion: Request from the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences – School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences – for the establishment of an undergraduate certificate – Environmental Justice

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision. 

Rationale: This certificate program in environmental justice prepares students to advocate for current and future environmental issues by critically assessing and evaluating the social and environmental issues at hand. By merging the social, scientific, historical and cultural aspects of environmental justice, students gain the ability to communicate with and for marginalized communities that disproportionately experience environmental hazards.
