Title of Motion: Request from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts – School of Arts, Media and Engineering – for the establishment of an undergraduate degree – BS in Game Design
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: This interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science program in game design combines a hands-on approach to creating games with a rich conceptual understanding of the cultural context of games, play, simulation, virtual environments and interactive media. This program prepares students to be culturally aware, technologically savvy, critically-thinking global citizens who strive to use their expertise in game design and media arts to bring about positive change in a society increasingly shaped by revolutions in new technologies.
