Resolution

Whereas, the Senate recognizes the importance and value of reducing the cost of undergraduate degrees; and

Whereas, the Senate supports increased employment opportunities for graduating students; and

Whereas, the Senate approves of curricular innovation that fosters greater academic access for students; and

Whereas, the Senate maintains its responsibility for evaluating and approving curricular changes;

Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the Arizona State University Senate holds that
•    with 90 credit hour degree programs being described in various educational sources as 'new, experimental, or pilot programs,' we see a need for greater scrutiny and monitoring,
•    any such degree program must have the support of the faculty in the degree-granting unit,
•    students enrolling in such a program must be fully informed about any possible limitation on the acceptance of such a degree by potential employers or graduate schools, or limitations on licensure,
•    students be informed about any additional educational requirements needed for employment, and about possible educational opportunities for furthering their employment opportunities,
•    the success and impact of such programs be fully evaluated to determine whether such degrees should continue to be offered, and
•    the results of such evaluations be communicated to the Senate.
