Title of Motion: Request from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts – ASU FIDM – for the establishment of a graduate certificate – The Art of Bespoke Tailoring
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: This microcertificate will introduce the original sustainable craft of authentic handmade bespoke tailoring, aligned with the tradition of Savile Row, London apprenticeships. Practiced for many centuries throughout Europe on Savile Row in London, in Milan as "Sartoria su misura," and in Paris as "Haute Couture" bespoke tailoring is one of the oldest and most enduring textile crafts in the world.
