Motion Introduced by:  Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee

Date of First Reading: April 27, 2026

Date of Second Reading: August 31, 2026

Title of Motion: Request from New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences – School of Social and Behavioral Sciences – for the transfer of an undergraduate degree – BS in Aging – From: New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, School of Social and Behavioral Sciences – To: Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale: With Edson College’s support, New College proposes to move the Aging BS and Aging Minor programs to Edson College with anticipated implementation in Fall 2027. For historical context, New College implemented these programs in Fall 2023 at the West Valley campus, after they were approved to move from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to New College in 2019. The programs also underwent a name change at that time from “Aging and Lifespan Development” to “Aging.” Much has changed since 2019 including the faculty champion for this program retiring. This has left the program struggling to operate with little faculty support or expertise in New College. Enrollment has also been low since launching – currently 3 students in the BS.
