Title of Motion: Request from Rob Walton College of Global Futures – Rob Walton School of Conservation Futures – for the establishment of an undergraduate degree – BS in Conservation
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: The BS in Conservation is intended to prepare students with new tools and innovative perspectives for protecting nature and people for a thriving and healthy future. It will offer transdisciplinary foundations in ecology, biodiversity science, environmental policy and multiple knowledge systems. This will translate into practical skills like environmental assessment, community engagement, project management, modeling, policy, and spatial analysis. Students will develop these skills via hands-on field experiences, integrated professional development and career advising, culminating in real-world projects.
