Motion Introduced by:  Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee

Date of First Reading: August 31, 2026

Date of Second Reading: September 28, 2026

Title of Motion: Request from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering – Dean’s Office – for the establishment of a graduate certificate – Artificial Intelligence Engineering Applications

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale: The graduate microcertificate in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineering Applications is aimed at students with a background in engineering who want to apply AI tools, including generative AI and large language models, to their chosen engineering profession. In other words, it is not aimed at students with a computer science background but seeks to 'upskill' engineering students by equipping them with the fundamental background and a brief exposure to such tools to enable them to use them in the workforce.
